Priceless Stitching

It has been so long since I made a blog post I almost forgot I still had this blog 😄 Today I am sharing all my spring stitching that I have completed so far during 2020. I may do a bit more (I have a couple of WIPs that aren't completed and that drives me crazy) sometime this year, but I am focusing on patriotic designs at the moment. I am already itching to start some fall and Halloween stitching too! Maybe if I stuck to a regular rotation I would cover all the bases 😂 First up is the Hands on Design More Chocolate Bunnies . I have eyed this pattern since it first came out, but when we got a brown Lion Head rabbit last fall I just knew I had stitch this design! I opted to stitch it on a piece of 28ct Monaco I dyed myself with auqamarine RIT dye and a tad bit of coffee. I did a floss toss with all the called for DMC at Michael's at first, then changed up colors as I thought needed to coordinate with my fabric choice. Happy Thanksgiving!! I hope you are having (or had) a wonderful Thanksgiving! I am so thankful for my readers who visit and also those who take the time to comment on my blog. I appreciate all the love and support! You all have been so wonderful! I am also so very thankful for the cross stitching community online and for FlossTube. I am finally sharing my small Boo! Hands on Design Chalk Full piece! Life has been hectic and I wanted to post this earlier. I am trying to wrap up all my fall and Halloween posts before Thanksgiving, but we will see how that goes 😂 As mentioned in my previous post where I shared my finish of the larger Chalk Full Boo! design, my whole kit came from the Fat Quarter Shop Chalk Full Club. I had made some color substitutions in the larger design (which you can read about here ) and I used the same color changes in the smaller design as well. I really enjoyed stitching this smaller piece! Note I forgot to fill in the green on the pumpkin stem. Harvest Chalk Full by Hands on Design is the first in the Chalk Full series inspired by Priscilla Blain's beautiful seasonal chalkboard drawings from her home.  I am enrolled in the Fat Quarter Shop Chalk Full Club . Each time a new Chalk Full design is released I get a complete package from Fat Quarter Shop to stitch up each piece. The kit includes the chart, fabric and threads. I used the Chalkboard Black 14 ct Aida and called for colors which were included in the kit. I love all the colors that were picked out for this design! I really enjoy stitching all the white outline first and then filling in with the color. I occasionally post progress on my Instagram account as I stitch my Chalk Full pieces. After stitching the design I mounted the piece to the Pres On self adhesive mounting board with a layer of batting in between. I think my Halloween Holiday Hoopla is one of my most special Halloween cross stitch pieces I have stitched up this season. Before I started stitching this design I hand dyed some Monaco fabric in a beautiful shade of green. It was in one of my project bags off to the side until I had time to work it into my WIP pile. A couple weeks later I was going through some emails and had one from Kirklands. The daily special was this simple, but cute wooden Halloween house for nearly 50% off. As soon as I saw the house I instantly knew I wanted to use it to display my Halloween Holiday Hoopla. I completely scratched all my previous ideas of fabric and displaying. I had a new idea! Since the piece is finished in a round shape I envisioned a beautiful fall full moon and the witch flying across it.  First, I dyed a new piece of fabric. I used a combination of orange and yellow Rit dye to create a shade that resembled a fall colored moon. After it baked and dried I then use a tiny bit of Charcoa...

This fall 3 tiered tray is now one of my favorite pieces of fall decor! I picked up this off white shabby chic tiered tray from Hobby Lobby. At the top of the 3 tiers is a rectangle chalkboard sign which is great for displaying small cross stitch pieces. It is also the perfect size for the small sized Chalk Full Harvest design by Hands on Design. This tiered tray isn't too big which makes it a nice sized piece to display on my kitchen island. I stitched the small Chalk Full Harvest design with all the materials that comes in the Fat Quarter Shop Chalk Full Club . The fabric is 14 count Chalkboard Black Aida and the threads are GAST Chalk, Classic Color Works Queen Bee, Bean Sprout, Trail Dust and Deep Fennel. All these colors coordinate beautifully! The only changes I made to the design was by adding Trail Dust cross stitches to the middle of each of the sunflowers. The Chalk Full series are inspired by Priscilla Blain's beautiful hand drawn chalk designs she changes through the seasons on a chalkboard in her home. Cathy Habermann from Hands on Design transformed them into fun cross stitch patterns. I am enrolled in the Fat Quarter Shop Chalk Full Club . The Boo design is the second in the series (blog post coming soon on the first design, Harvest, that I stitched up several weeks ago!) and so much fun to stitch! It means all things fall and our weather (usually) tries to start cooling off a tad bit (as much as it can for Oklahoma). It also means Christmas is even closer 😉 I am so blessed to have a Bosom Friend and it is a bonus her birthday is in October! This year I decided to make her a special gift. We both dearly love all things Anne of Green Gables so when I ran across this design, October Cottage, by Country Cottage Needleworks I thought it would be perfect! All I had to do is tweak the colors a bit to make it look more like the Anne of Green Gables cottage.  I stitched this piece on a hand dyed 28ct even weave with a coffee/tea dye method. I am so excited to share my first ever Halloween cross stitch finish! This design is Snail Slime from the Scary Apothecary series by Hands on Design. As soon as I saw this design I had to purchase it and stitch it up for the Halloween season this year! I love snails and think they are just adorable. The kids and I love looking for snails in our front flower bed where they have lived for a few years. We have had some as big as a nickle, which we have nicknamed Daddy Snail when we see him 😂 Needless to say the kids thought this design was pretty cute too. I chose to hand dye a piece of 28ct DMC Monaco fabric to stitch on, but I knew I didn't want to do white as shown on the design piece. I am really drawn to dark gray and other typical Halloween colors. I dyed my fabric using the Charcoal Rit Dye and baked it dry. Then  I used a bit of left over coffee to soak it once again. I baked it a second time even longer than before to make the coffee marks really darken up.  It re...

In honor of the first day of fall, I am sharing one of my recent finishes as my first post on my Priceless Stitching Blog ! This design is Happy Harvest from Country Cottage Needleworks. It is stitched on a 28 count evenweave from Hobby Lobby's Artiste brand. I did a light coffee and tea dye on the fabric before stitching on it. I used all the called for overdyed flosses except for the red on the house, which is Classic Colorworks Cherry Cobbler. The pattern called for CC Crab Cakes, but it was too pinky for my taste. I had also just picked up this adorable tin FarmHouse decor piece on clearance at my local grocery store and placed picks inside. The Cherry Cobbler was the perfect color to match. I knew it had to be displayed next to my Happy Harvest! The only change I made to the pattern was omitting the birds.
