With Thy Needle and Thread Halloween Holiday Hoopla by Brenda Gervais

I think my Halloween Holiday Hoopla is one of my most special Halloween cross stitch pieces I have stitched up this season. Before I started stitching this design I hand dyed some Monaco fabric in a beautiful shade of green. It was in one of my project bags off to the side until I had time to work it into my WIP pile. A couple weeks later I was going through some emails and had one from Kirklands. The daily special was this simple, but cute wooden Halloween house for nearly 50% off. As soon as I saw the house I instantly knew I wanted to use it to display my Halloween Holiday Hoopla. I completely scratched all my previous ideas of fabric and displaying. I had a new idea! Since the piece is finished in a round shape I envisioned a beautiful fall full moon and the witch flying across it.  First, I dyed a new piece of fabric. I used a combination of orange and yellow Rit dye to create a shade that resembled a fall colored moon. After it baked and dried I then use a tiny bit of Charcoal Gray Rit dye over the fabric. I thought this gave it the effect of wispy clouds glazing over the full moon on a spooky Halloween night. I also changed up the design a bit. Since the fabric was the moon itself, I decided to omit the moon on the pattern (hated to, it was cute though!). Then I also omitted some of the other small designs and added more bats around the witch.

I used various colors of floss to stitch this design since I didn't have many of the called for over dyes. I made my own over dyed threads for the black dress, shoes, hat and boots. Most other colors were DMC, but her face was Weeks Dye Works Grasshopper and the broom handle was Classic Colorworks Trail Dust.  After I was done stitching the design, I mounted it to Pres On Self Adhesive Mounting Board with 2 layers of batting underneath for dimension. Then I hot glued black mini pom pom trim around the edges. I thought it made the design pop, but also make it blend in well to it's display piece. The Halloween house had 3 decor pieces sticking out of the roof tops with wire. They are metal so I hot glued a magnet to the back of my completed Halloween Holiday Hoopla and it stuck right to it.

Below is my FlossTube episode where I show my completed Halloween Holiday Hoopla.

I still have more fall and Halloween cross stitch pieces to share here on my blog! I share them on my FlossTube videos before sharing here on the blog though.

2020 Spring Stitching

It has been so long since I made a blog post I almost forgot I still had this blog 😄 Today I am sharing all my spring stitching that I have completed so far during 2020. I may do a bit more (I have a couple of WIPs that aren't completed and that drives me crazy) sometime this year, but I am focusing on patriotic designs at the moment. I am already itching to start some fall and Halloween stitching too! Maybe if I stuck to a regular rotation I would cover all the bases 😂 First up is the Hands on Design More Chocolate Bunnies . I have eyed this pattern since it first came out, but when we got a brown Lion Head rabbit last fall I just knew I had stitch this design! I opted to stitch it on a piece of 28ct Monaco I dyed myself with auqamarine RIT dye and a tad bit of coffee. I did a floss toss with all the called for DMC at Michael's at first, then changed up colors as I thought needed to coordinate with my fabric choice. After I started stitching I scratched most the colors and...

Fat Quarter Shop 2019 Spooky Box Project

I am so excited to share my first quilting blog post! I started quilting almost 4 years ago and have made several lap sized and full sized quilts so far. The Fat Quarter Shop has the most beautiful monthly quilting kits and I am most drawn to the seasonal ones they make for Halloween and Christmas each year. This year I decided to purchase the Halloween Spooky box and I am so glad I did! This year's box included beautiful fat quarters from Riley Blake and an exclusive FQS pattern, Driving Me Batty, to make this super cute bat themed Halloween table runner. Also included in the box was a adorable Meori, an exclusive Bat Binding tool and an iron on label to attach to the finished table runner. The pattern was published in color and very easy to read and understand. The directions showed what sized blocks were to be cut from each fat quarter if you wished to follow the exact look of the model. After I finished sewing the top I quilted the piece using a fabric I had...

Happy Thanksgiving!! I hope you are having (or had) a wonderful Thanksgiving! I am so thankful for my readers who visit and also those who take the time to comment on my blog. I appreciate all the love and support! You all have been so wonderful! I am also so very thankful for the cross stitching community online and for FlossTube. I have made so many new friends over the past year. Everyone in the cross stitching community is so positive and supportive. I have been so inspired by all the projects and ideas that are shared which helps me think outside the box with my own projects. I hope to keep sharing videos and blogging to maybe inspire someone else with my own creations. Today I am sharing a very special piece, Wee Gobbler by Heart in Hand. I purchased this chart many years ago. If memory serves me correct, around 16 years ago, but maybe more! I had purchased a design from my local needle shop, Silver Needle, 16 years ago to make a gift for my soon-to-be Mother in Law. I beli...
